Mr. Prakash Chand assumed charge as Ambassador of India to the State of Eritrea with effect from 2nd January 2023. He joined the Ministry of External Affairs in 1988.
Prior to assuming charge as Ambassador of India to the State of Eritrea, he served as the Consul General of India in Bali, Indonesia from September 2019 to December 2022.
He has previously served in various capacities in Indian Missions and Posts abroad in Kampala, Uganda from 1990 to 1992; London, U.K. from 1992-1995; Cairo, Egypt from 1995-1998; Beijing, China from 2002 to 2005; Vienna, Austria from 2005 to 2008; Manila, Philippines from 2010 to 2014. At the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, he has served in various capacities including Deputy Chief of Protocol (Conferences/Facilities) from 2008 to 2010 and Deputy Secretary/Director (Consular) from 2014 to 2019 in the Consular, Passport & Visa (CPV) Division.
He completed his graduation from Delhi University and speaks Hindi and English.
He is married to Mrs. Babita Kumari and they have two daughters.
