Registration of Overseas Electors
After insertion of a new section 20(A) in the Representation of People Act 1950, every citizen of India whose name is not included in the electoral roll, and who has not acquired the citizenship of other country and who is absenting from his place of ordinary residence in India owing to his employment, education or otherwise outside India is entitled to have his name registered in the electoral roll in the constituency in which his place of residence in India as mentioned in his passport is located.
The facility for online registration for NRI electors is available on National Voters Service Portal(NVSP) of Election Commission of India. For online registration, the NRI electorate is required to fill up Form 6a at NVSP website –www.nvsp.in and submit it. The form 6a requires general information about the electorate such as name, gender, place and date of birth, passport and visa details etc.
